The Chhau male and female (tribal) mask is a fascinating and crucial element of Chhau dance, a vibrant tribal martial dance form purulia , West Bengal.

The making of a Chhau mask is a labor-intensive process passed down through generations, traditionally crafted by the artisans of purulia, West Bengal.

Artisans  first sculpt facial features in clay to create a mold.

8 to 10 layers of soft paper soaked in diluted glue are pasted over the mold.

A layer of mud and cloth is applied, sun-dried, polished, and then hand-painted with bright colors.

The base skin tones, fierce eyes, and tribal markings are meticulously painted.

This is an unique  Chau Male and female Mask. Apart dance or drama this mask is also used for Home-Decor. mask is used  It is made up with paper pulp.
